The Tomorrowland DJ Competition 2024 is here, and I’m beyond excited to throw my hat into the ring!
For any DJ, the opportunity to play a set at Tomorrowland, one of the world’s most iconic electronic music festivals, is a dream come true. This year, that dream could become a reality, so check out my submission mixset below!
Before I delve into the music, check out the short video above. It’ll give you a glimpse into my journey as a DJ, the experiences that have shaped my sound, and why I believe I’m the right fit for the Tomorrowland stage.
My Tomorrowland mixset is a sonic journey inspired by the festival’s spirit of unity, adventure, and the sheer joy of music. The competition rules stated that the set was to be between 30 – 45 mins in length. I have focussed the set to try to highlight:
- My own unique progressive style: With a limitation of 45 mins I have worked hard to build a musical journey that screams Tomorrowland while keeping to my own unique style.
- Artists Featured: You will hear artists that include Above & Beyond, NERO, Funkagenda, Eli Brown, Ice House (for something Australian), BT, Fatum and Ilan Bluestone.
- Unexpected Twists: This set don’t much around, hold on to your hats… It builds and drops with pace!
I wanted to create a set that not only represents who I am as an artist but also captures the essence of what makes Tomorrowland so special.
Why I Should Win?
I have been DJing across nightclubs and events in Australia for the last 13 years and if there is one thing I know it is that The best DJ’s electrify crowds, telling a story that has the power to transport you to another world and completely immerse you in the moment.
From the first day I set foot into a nightclub, this concept has been my obsession.
I had a burning desire to understand what it was that amazing DJ’s did to capture crowds, from how they read the room, to how they picked songs in their set building a journey that kept crowds coming back for more.
This led to me purchasing a basic DJ setup and the beginnings of what would become my true passion. I played constantly, from Thursday till Monday for friends and anyone that would listen… The only time I wasn’t playing would be when we were out on a Saturday night… The next day I would be back in my lounge room emulating the journeys that I experienced the night before.
From those early days right up to today whether playing to a couple of mates at home, or many at residency gigs such as Arq Sydney closing Saturday night set… I have always been obsessed with the audience. My only focus is on engaging with the people in front of me through my music.
A friend of mine told me that my point of difference is that as a DJ I tell stories that truly resonates with people.
Over the years I have had some great moments from DJing at events like Sydney Mardi Gras, along with regular gigs and residencies across nightclubs in both Sydney and Melbourne.
In 2022, two of my closest mates and I embarked our first Tomorrowland adventure and I am sure it’s to the surprise of no one that since that first trip, we have been completely hooked. The attention to detail is unlike anything I have ever experienced. Everything from the music and sound quality, the visual production and pyrotechnics, and the incredible narrative that is brought to life each year. No expense is spared, and the experience is jaw-dropping. You meet new people, from so many different walks of life opening your mind to new ways of thinking.
From the moment we left the Tomorrowland grounds, we start planning and thinking about what we need to do so we can get to the next one!
To have the opportunity to do the thing that I love most on a platform like Tomorrowland would be a life altering experience. I know that amongst the nerves I will no doubt feel , I will embrace the opportunity to be apart of the Tomorrowland story for 2024.
There is no other event on this planet like Tomorrowland, and to get the opportunity to showcase and be apart of the Tomorrowland story for 2024 would be something really special!
